Embroidery Project Embroidered Holiday Blouse Created by Debbi Lashbrook Holiday embroidery turns a plain sheer blouse into something special. On sheer fabrics, it is a good idea to reduce the density of the design. This is easily done in the BERNINA Embroidery Software. Open, airy, lightly-digitized are best; outline designs are also good. Supplies Sewing Equipment & Accessories • BERNINA Embroidery Software • BERNINA Sewing & Embroidery System • Mega Hoop • Large Oval Hoop • Flat Bed Scanner Embroidery Designs • OESD's Holiday Linens 2 Collection #12215, • Designs HG045 and HG051 Notions & Blouse • Isacord Embroidery Thread in desired colors • AquaMesh Plus Wash-Away Stabilizer • Organ Embroidery needle, size 65 or 70 Sharp • EZ Glitzer and crystals • Purchased Sheer Blouse Preparing the Placket Design Open the BERNINA Embroidery Software. Right click on the Show Hoop icon and choose the artista 400 x 150 Mega Hoop; make sure Display Hoop and Show Grid are activated. Select the Open Object tool and a Single outline. Draw a placement line down the center of the Mega hoop outline. This will be used to place the design evenly along the placket edge. Select File > Insert Design and choose HG045. Click the Rotate icon two times. Move the holly design to the left of the place ment line the desired distance. Press M on the key board and measure the length of the holly design. Measure the finished length of the blouse along the placket in mil limeters. ©2009 BERNINA of America, Inc. jpl Page 1 of 3 Divide the length of the blouse by the length of the holly design to find out how many repeats it will take to stitch along the placket. Make any adjustments necessary to the size of the design so that it fits your placket length. Select and Ungroup the design. Select the red berries in the Color Film and left click on the Object Properties icon. Highlight the manual Satin Spacing value and change it to 0.55. Hold the Control key on the keyboard and select all the light and dark leaves. Click on the Outline Tab to change the fill to a single outline. While the leaves are still selected, change the single outline to a backstitch with a stitch length of 4. Select everything except the placement line and Group the design. Select the design, then right click and drag the design to make a Quick Clone of the holly. Select both designs and click on the Align Left icon. Save the design as Holiday Blouse. Preparing the Collar Design Scan the left collar with a flat bed scanner and save the file on your computer. Select Picture View (v5) or Art Canvas (v6) > Load Picture, then open the scanned collar. Switch to Design View (v5) or Embroidery Canvas (v6) and select the Open Object tool; draw a place ment line around the collar. Reshape the line as necessary to outline the collar. Select File > Insert Design; insert design HG051. Ungroup the design. Choose each of the berries of the light green leaves and Delete them. Delete the light green leaves Change the density of the remaining berries by clicking on Object Properties and changing the manual Satin Spacing to 0.55. Change the outline of the darker leaves by selecting the Outline tab, changing the fill to a single outline, ©2009 BERNINA of America, Inc. jpl Page 2 of 3 then changing the single outline to a backstitch with a stitch length of 4. Group the design. Move and rotate the design as needed to fit the collar. Save the design as Holiday Blouse Collar. Stitching the De sign Follow the same procedure to stitch the collar, but using a smaller hoop. Hoop the AquaMesh Plus, then remove the paper cover. Stitch the placement line. Hoop the AquaMesh Plus stabilizer in the Mega Hoop with the paper side up; remove the paper cover from the stabilizer inside the hoop. Stitch the placement line. Remove the hoop from the machine and position the blouse placket along the stitched line. Finger press in place. Reattach the hoop to the machine, select Single Color Motif, and stitch the remaining design. Continue to stitch the design using the same stitching procedure. Use the Move Motif icon with the positioning arrows on the machine to realign the design for the second hooping. Repeat a third time if necessary.
