To avoid danger of suffocation, keep away from babies and children. www.bissell.com 800.237.7691 Assembly The only tool you'll need to assemble your vacuum cleaner is a Phillips head screwdriver. Attach handle to vacuum 1. Locate the vacuum handle and remove the screw packet taped to the base of the handle. 2. Stand the vacuum upright and slide the base of the handle firmly into the grooves at the top of the vacuum body. 3. Check to be sure the handle is fitted to the vacuum body. If there is a gap in front, continue to push firmly until the handle is flush. 4. Insert the screw provided from the screw packet into the existing hole. Tighten securely with a screwdriver. Attach vacuum hose and tools 2. 1. Attach the Twist 'n Snap™ hose by lining up the tabs on the base with the corresponding notches on the back of the vacuum. 2. Turn the Twist 'n Snap hose to the right to lock the hose into place. 3. Grasping the Quick Reach handle, slide the end of the hose wand onto the hose wand base. Snap 2. 4. 4. 5. 3. the hose into the hose clip. NOTE: The powerfoot will not suction properly unless the hose wand is firmly attached. 4. Snap the extension wand and the crevice tool together into the storage clip. The crevice tool stores inside the extension wand and snaps onto the back of the unit. 5. Snap the combination tool into the storage clip. 6. Attach the TurboBrush Tool by aligning the small holes near the brush roll with the tabs at the bottom of TurboBrush Tool housing. Snap TurboBrush Tool into place. 6. 4. 5 www.bissell.com 800.237.7691 Operations Handle position Press the handle release pedal with your foot to place your CleanView Helix into one of three cleaning positions. 1. Upright– For storage and above floor cleaning with tools. 2. Normal cleaning – Press handle release household floor cleaning tasks. 3. Low cleaning –With the vacuum in normal cleaning position, press handle release pedal again, use for reaching under low furniture such as tables, chairs or beds. Height adjustment There are five height settings available for various floor surfaces. Turn the dial on the foot of the cleaner to the desired setting. Lowest setting – For low pile carpet or bare floors. To pick up debris it may be necessary to move up one setting. Medium setting – For medium pile carpet. Highest setting – For high pile and most shag carpet. Tip: CAUTION: Before using your vacuum, make sure that the dirt container is in locked position and that all filters (inner circular, outer circular, pre-motor and post-motor) are in place. Do not operate your vacuum without these filters. Tip: Note: For optimal carpet cleaning performance, adjust to the lowest practical setting. If your cleaner is difficult to push, adjust to the next higher setting. If the dial is difficult to turn, tilt the cleaner back slightly to take the weight off the foot while turning. Hair, string and small objects can block the vacuum hose or tools. Check them occasionally for obstructions. Tip: Before cleaning under low furniture, check area first for objects that might harm the unit or block the vacuum hose. Power switch The power switch is located just below the handle on the side of the vacuum. I - ON O - OFF Transporting cleaner 1. To move your cleaner from room to room, put the Handle in the upright position, tilt the cleaner back on its rear wheels and push forward. 2. The cleaner can also be moved by using the carrying handle. Your vacuum features a Quick Release cord wrap. To remove the power cord quickly and easily, rotate the upper cord wrap towards floor, and slip power cord from upper and lower cord wraps. 6 www.bissell.com 800.237.7691 Operations Air flow indicator (select models only) The air flow indicator tells you when airflow in the vacuum is reduced due to a clog in the hose. The indicator will remain green until the airflow is reduced. When it is fully red, the airflow is significantly reduced or blocked. Follow the steps on page 12 to clear a clog. Special tools Your BISSELL CleanView Helix is not only a powerful carpet and rug vacuum cleaner, it's also a versatile above floor vacuum cleaner when you select one of the special tools. 1. Raise handle to upright position. 2. Grasp the Quick Reach handle and lift hose wand to separate from suction intake opening. 3. Attach tools by firmly pushing onto vacuum hose or extension wand. a) Crevice tool – Use in tight narrow spaces. b) Combination dusting brush/upholstery tool Two types of cleaning tools are included in one attachment. Rotate for desired tool. Use brush side to dust furniture, blinds, books, lamps, shelves and baseboards. c) Extension wand CAUTION: The rotating floor brush continues to rotate while tools are in use. To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts, always move the cleaner with the car rying handle at the back of the cleaner. Always place vacuum cleaner on floor with handle in upright position when using tools. Never place your fingers under the cleaner when it is running. Never place powerfoot on furniture or uneven surfaces. Do not place vacuum cleaner close enough to objects to pull them into rotating brush. NOTICE: The floor brush will continue to rotate while you use your vacuum for above floor cleaning. To prevent carpet damage, do not lean on the vacuum or let the powerfoot tilt forward. a) b) c) Tip: Hair, string and small objects can block the vacuum hose or tools. Check them occasionally for obstructions. 7 www.bissell.com 800.237.7691 Operations Power cord storage When you have finished using your BISSELL CleanView Helix, return it to the upright position and store the power cord. 1. Turn vacuum cleaner off. 2. Unplug power cord by grasping the polarized plug (NOT the cord) and disconnect from outlet. 3. Loop power cord around cord wraps on side of vacuum cleaner. 4. Clip molded plug to power cord to secure. Maintenance and care To maintain maximum cleaning performance, the following maintenance steps must be performed: 1. Empty the dirt container when the dirt reaches the "Full" line on the side. 2. Check the inner and outer circular filters and the pre-motor filter at least once a month and clean or replace as needed. 3. Replace the post-motor filter every six months. Note: More frequent filter cleaning or replacing may be necessary if you are vacuuming new carpet, fine dust or have allergy concerns. Follow the instructions on the following pages to perform these simple maintenance steps. Empty Dirt Container The dirt container needs to be emptied when the dirt reaches the "Full" line on the side of the container. 1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet. 2. Slide the Lock 'n Seal lever to the "Unlock" position. 3. Grasp dirt cup portion handle and pull straight out to remove from vacuum. 4. Empty dirt into garbage container. NOTICE: While vacuuming, certain carpets and low humidity conditions may generate small static discharges. The discharges are entirely harmless and are not associated in any way with the main power supply. WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn power switch OFF and disconnect polarized plug from electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks. Tip: For maximum cleaning performance, check and clean or replace all filters as suggested. 2. Put the dirt container back in the vacuum and slide the lever to the "Lock" position. Note: The dirt container may be washed in warm water with a mild detergent. Make sure it is completely dry before replacing. Do not wash any components in the dishwasher. Hand wash only. Cleaning the inner & outer circular filter Use only genuine BISSELL style replacement filters in your BISSELL CleanView Helix. 1. Unplug the cleaner from electrical outlet. 2. a) Remove the dirt container as described in the previous section. b) Grasp the filter cup located at the bottom of the dirt container. Lift up and out. DO NOT TRY TO PULL THE CIRCULAR FOAM FITLER OUT OF THE FILTER CUP WHILE IT IS STILL IN THE VACUUM. 3. Grasp the plastic tab on the top of the circular foam filters. Twist to unlock and pull out. 4. Separate the outer foam and inner pleated circular filters. Wash each individually by hand in warm water. Mild detergent may be used if desired. Rinse well, then air dry thoroughly before putting them back together and replacing in filter cup. 5. The filter cup may be washed in warm water with a mild detergent. Make sure it is completely dry before reassembling with filters. 6. The upper tank and louvers may also be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Reach underneath the upper tank and turn the rim of the louvers to unlock. Pull straight down to remove. Make sure all parts are dry before replacing. 2a. 2b. 3. 9 www.bissell.com 800.237.7691 Maintenance and care Cleaning the pre-motor filter 1. Unplug the cleaner from electrical outlet. 2. The pre-motor filter protects the motor from debris. It is located underneath the filter cup in the center of the round part of the Lock 'n Seal lever. 3. Remove the small round filter and any debris on top of it. Rinse well under warm water, then air dry thoroughly before replacing. Replacing the post-motor filter Use only genuine BISSELL style 9 (#32076) replacement filters in your BISSELL CleanView Helix. 1. Unplug the cleaner from electrical outlet. 2. The post-motor filter assists in the filtration process to return clean air to the room. It is located behind the door on the side of the vacuum. When the filter becomes dirty, open the door, remove the filter and replace. The white, pleated HEPA Media Filter* is not washable. Note: A basic washable post-motor filter with reduced filtration is available if desired. WARNING: Do not operate cleaner with damp or wet filters or without all filters in place. Pre-Motor Filter Post-Motor Filter WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts, turn off vacuum cleaner and disconnect Power Plug from electrical outlet. Checking rotating floor brush and drive belt You should check your vacuum cleaner's rotating floor brush and drive belt regularly for wear or damage. You should also clean the brush and brush ends of strings, hair and carpet fibers. These can wrap around the brush and hamper its ability to effectively clean your carpet. Also remove any debris that has accumulated under the brush cover. 1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet. 2. Place handle in low position and turn vacuum cleaner over so bottom side is up. 3. Remove the five screws with a Phillips head screwdriver. Lift the brush cover off. 4. Grasp rotating floor brush at both ends and lift. *The filter media, not the vacuum as a whole, complies with IEST-RP-CC001.5 HEPA standard. 3. Clean strings, hair and other debris from rotating floor brush, paying particular attention to brush ends. 6. Clean strings, hair and other debris from motor pulley and drive belt areas. 7. Check drive belt carefully for wear, cuts or stressed areas. 8. Check air passageway for obstructions. Remove debris from this area. Replace drive belt Use only genuine BISSELL style 9 replacement belts (#203-1093) in your BISSELL CleanView Helix. 1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet. 2. With rotating floor brush removed from vacuum cleaner (steps 1-4 of Check rotating floor brush and drive belt), grasp old drive belt and remove from motor pulley. Discard old drive belt. 3. Place new drive belt over motor pulley and stretch other end over rotating floor brush in the space between the bristles. 4. Place ends of rotating floor brush down into slots on sides as shown. 5. Turn rotating floor brush by hand several times in the direction of motor pulley. If properly installed, drive belt will center itself on rotating brush. 6. Reposition brush cover and screw back into place. 8. Motor Pulley Air Passageway 11 www.bissell.com 800.237.7691 Maintenance and care Clearing a clog Low suction or poor pickup may be due to a clog in the vacuum cleaner. If you notice a change in the sound of the motor or a reduction in the spinning action, check for clogs. 1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet. 2. Empty dirt container. 3. Check upper tank for build up or clogs. 4. Check the suction inlet for a clog. 5. Grasp the quick reach handle and lift hose wand to separate from the suction opening. Check for a clog in the base, the wand or the hose. 6. Remove the screw attaching the hose wand base to the vacuum. Straighten the hose wand base and unclog with long, narrow object such as a broom stick. 7. You'll find assembly and operating instructions, safety precautions, as well as maintenance and troubleshooting instruc tions. Please read this guide thoroughly before assembling your vacuum cleaner. Pay particular attention to the product diagram, assembly instructions, and part names. Locate and organize all parts before assembly. Familiarize yourself with the parts and where they go. Following this user's guide will greatly enhance your ability to get the most performance from your vacuum for many years. Your vacuum comes in two, easy-to-assemble components: the handle and the base. Assembly 1. Position the handle so the lower snap is facing the back of the vacuum. 2. Line up the holes on the base with the snap and knob on the handle. 3. Insert the handle into the base and push until you hear it lock into place. Note: The handle is designed so only the correct snaps will fit comfortably with the holes in the base. Do not use excessive force while assembling this vacuum. It should fit together with ease. 4. Wrap power cord around cord wraps and place attachments in their correct holders. Your vacuum assembly is now complete. Handle position Press the detent lever with your foot to place your vacuum in one of three positions. 1. Upright- For storage and transporting. 2. Normal Cleaning- Press detent lever once. Use for most household floor cleaning tasks. 3. Low Cleaning- With the vacuum in normal cleaning position, press detent lever again. Use for reaching under low furniture, such as tables, chairs, or beds. Your BISSELL Easy Vac is not only a powerful carpet and rug vacuum cleaner, it's also a versatile above floor vacuum cleaner when you select one of the special tools. 1. Raise handle to upright position. 2. Grasp hose and remove from hose holder. 3. Attach tools by firmly pushing onto vacuum hose. Crevice Tool: 3. Use in tight narrow spaces. Dusting Brush: Use to dust upholstery, drapes, blinds, shelves, baseboards, and much more. *Note: Brush will continue to rotate while tools are in use. Transporting cleaner 1. To move your cleaner from room to room, put the handle in the upright position, tilt the cleaner back on its rear wheels, and push forward. 2. Remove the plastic plug guard and dispose. 2. Unclip polarized plug from power cord. 3. Rotate the Quick Release cord wrap towards floor and slip power cord from upper and lower cord wraps. 4. Connect power cord plug to a polarized outlet. 5. To keep the power cord out of your way while cleaning, place it in the cord hook by the top of the vacuum. Power Switch pedal The red power switch pedal is located on the back of the cleaner, under the cord wraps. 1. Step on the power switch to turn the unit "On". The rotating floor brush and suction will start. 2. Step on the pedal again to turn the vacuum "Off". Do not operate your vacuum without these filters. Before cleaning under low furniture, check for objects that might block the vacuum hose. Clean the dirt tank if any visible clogs occur. 2. Empty the dirt cup when the dirt reaches the "Full" line on the side. 3. Check the inner and outer circular filters, and the pre-motor filter at least once a month and clean or replace as needed. 4. Check rotating floor brush frequently, remove any strings, hair or debris that might interfere with the suction power. Note: More frequent filter cleaning or replacement may be necessary if you are vacuuming new carpet, fine dust, or have allergy concerns. Follow the instructions on the following pages to perform these simple maintenance steps. Cleaning the dirt tank You have three parts to your dirt tank: upper tank, dirt cup, and lower tank. Emptying the dirt cup The dirt cup needs to be emptied when dirt reaches the "Full" line. 1. Turn off vacuum and unplug it from electrical outlet. 2. Remove dirt cup by pulling dirt cup release handle. Then lift dirt cup out. 3. Empty dirt into garbage container. To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts and/or electrical shock, step power switch to "OFF" and disconnect polarized plug from electrical outlet before performing troubleshooting checks Upper Tank Dirt Cup Full Line Lower Tank 2. 3. Tip: 4. Put the dirt cup back in the vacuum and 4. push in the dirt cup release handle to lock into place. Note: There are two clips on the base of the vacuum that the cup will fit into to ensure proper placement. The dirt cup may be washed in warm water with a mild detergent. Remove the lower tank from the bottom before washing. Rinse and dry thoroughly before re-attaching it. Turn off vacuum and unplug it from electrical outlet. 2. Remove dirt cup by pulling the dirt cup release handle. Then lift dirt cup out. 3. Grasp the lower tank located at the bottom of the dirt cup and twist toward the unlock posi tion to remove it. 4. Grasp the circular filters and twist to unlock. Pull straight up to remove. 5. Separate the outer foam and the inner pleated circular filters. Wash them by hand in warm water. Mild detergent may be used if desired. Rinse well, then air dry thoroughly before putting back together and replacing in lower tank. 6. Place the filters back into the lower tank and twist to lock into place. 7. Reassemble the lower tank with the dirt cup by twisting them together until the arrow is aligned with the lock symbol. 2. 3. 4. 7 Tip: Vacuuming new carpet or Inner & Outer Circular Filters Lock Position vacuuming fine powders such as drywall dust may clog the filters, so check them more frequently. It is the small, round filter located underneath the dirt cup, right above the motor. 1. Turn off vacuum and unplug it from electrical outlet. 2. Remove dirt cup by pulling the dirt cup release handle. Then lift dirt cup out. 3. Remove the small round pre-motor filter located on the base of the vacuum. 4. Remove any dust or debris from the filter. Rinse well under warm water, then air dry thoroughly before replacing. *Note: Always make sure all filters are in place and thoroughly dry before using this vacuum. 5. Replace dirt cup and push in dirt cup release handle to lock into place. Cleaning the upper tank 1. Turn off vacuum and unplug it from electrical outlet. 2. Remove dirt cup by pulling the dirt cup release handle. Then lift dirt cup out. 3. Twist the primary separator to unlock it and pull it down. Brush off any dirt and rinse off screen with warm water. Air dry completely before replacing. 4. Check hose inlet for any clogging. 5. Reassemble the primary separator by centering the front symbol and twisting toward lock position, as shown. 6. Turn off vacuum cleaner and unplug power cord. 2. Loop power cord around cord wraps on back of cleaner, making certain Quick Release cord wrap is pointed up towards handle. 3. Clip molded plug to power cord to secure. Clean and replace rotating floor brush You should check your cleaner's rotating floor brush and drive belt regularly for wear or damage. You should also clean the brush and brush ends by removing string, hair and carpet fibers. These can wrap around the brush and hamper its ability to effectively clean your carpet. Also, remove any debris that has accumulated under the brush cover. 1. Turn off vacuum and unplug from electrical outlet. 2. Place vacuum upside down with brush roll facing upwards. 3. Remove five screws as shown with a small Phillips screwdriver. 4. Lift off brush cover. 5. Grasp floor brush at both ends and lift out. 6. Clean strings, hair and other debris from floor brush, motor shaft, and drive belt. 7. Check floor brush for worn areas and replace if needed. 8. Check air passageway for obstructions. Remove debris from this area. 9. When finished cleaning, reposition floor brush and drive belt. Then replace the brush cover and five screws. Follow steps 1-4 of previous section, "Clean and replace rotating floor brush". 2. Check drive belt carefully for wear, cuts and stressed areas. If the drive belt appears worn, you will need to replace it. 3. Grasp old drive belt and remove from motor shaft. Discard old drive belt. 4. Loop new drive belt over motor shaft and stretch other end over floor brush in the space provided between the bristles. 5. Place ends of floor brush down into slots on sides as shown. 6. Turn floor brush by hand several times in the direction of the motor shaft. If properly installed, drive belt will align itself on floor brush. 7. Replace brush cover and five screws. Cleaning stretch hose and foot hose 1. Locate the stretch hose where it connects to the dirt cup on the back of the vacuum. 2. Push in the two side clips and pull out to release hose from the holder. 3. Look to see if there is any debris in the hose. Clean as necessary. 4. Locate the clear foot hose under the hose holder. 5. Remove the two screws located to the left of the hose. 6. Check for any debris in the hose. 7. Use a long narrow object such as a broomstick to clean the hose. Remove clogs or debris. 8. Replace two screws to attach foot hose. Replace stretch hose by snapping into the holder. *Note: If the debris cannot be reached through the hose, then follow the instructions for cleaning the air passageway in the "Clean and replace rotating floor brush" section. You'll find assembly and operating instructions, safety precautions, as well as maintenance and troubleshooting instructions. Please read this guide thoroughly before assembling your vacuum cleaner. Pay particular attention to the product diagram, assembly instructions, and part names. Locate and organize all parts before assembly. Familiarize yourself with the parts and where they go. Following this user's guide will greatly enhance your ability to get the most performance from your vacuum for many years. Your vacuum comes in two, easy-to-assemble components: the handle and the base. Assembly 1. Position the handle so the lower snap is facing the back of the vacuum. 2. Line up the holes on the base with the snap and knob on the handle. 3. Insert the handle into the base and push until you hear it lock into place. Note: The handle is designed so only the correct snaps will fit comfortably with the holes in the base. Do not use excessive force while assembling this vacuum. It should fit together with ease. Your vacuum assembly is now complete. Handle position Press the detent lever with your foot to place your vacuum in one of three positions. 1. Upright- For storage and transporting. 2. Normal Cleaning- Press detent lever once. Use for most household floor cleaning tasks. 3. Low Cleaning- With the vacuum in normal cleaning position, press detent lever again. Use for reaching under low furniture, such as tables, chairs, or beds. WARNING: Do not plug in your vacuum cleaner until you have completely assembled it per the following instructions and are familiar with all instructions and operating procedures. To move your cleaner from room to room, put the handle in the upright position, tilt the cleaner back on its rear wheels, and push forward. 2. The cleaner can also be moved by using the carrying handle on the front. Using your cleaner 1. Remove the plastic plug guard and dispose. 2. Unclip polarized plug from power cord. 3. Rotate the Quick Release cord wrap towards floor and slip power cord from upper and lower cord wraps. 4. Connect power cord plug to a polarized outlet. 5. To keep the power cord out of your way while cleaning, place it in the cord hook near the top of the handle. Power Switch pedal The power switch pedal is located on the back of the cleaner, under the cord wraps. 1. Step on the power switch to turn the unit "On". The rotating floor brush and suction will start. 2. Step on the pedal again to turn the vacuum "Off". CAUTION: Before using your vacuum, make sure the dirt container is locked in place, and that all filters (inner circular, outer circular, and pre motor) are in place. Do not operate your vacuum without these filters. Tip: Before cleaning under low furniture, check for objects that might block the vacuum hose. Do not pick up hard or sharp objects such as glass, nails, screws, coins, paper clips, etc. with vacuum. Clean the dirt tank if any visible clogs occur. 2. Empty the dirt cup when the dirt reaches the "Full" line on the side. 3. Check the inner and outer circular filters, and the pre-motor filter at least once a month and clean or replace as needed. 4. Check rotating floor brush frequently, remove any strings, hair or debris that might interfere with the suction power. Note: More frequent filter cleaning or replacement may be necessary if you are vacuuming new carpet, fine dust, or have allergy concerns. Follow the instructions on the following pages to perform these simple maintenance steps. Cleaning the dirt tank You have three parts to your dirt tank: upper tank, dirt cup, and lower tank. Emptying the dirt cup The dirt cup needs to be emptied when dirt reaches the "Full" line. 1. Turn off vacuum and unplug it from electrical outlet. 2. 2. Remove dirt cup by pulling dirt cup release handle then left dirt cup out. 3. Empty dirt into garbage container. 4. Put the dirt cup back in the vacuum and push in the dirt cup release handle to lock into place. Note: There are two clips on the base of the vacuum that the cup will fit into to ensure proper placement. 3. Remove the lower tank from the bottom before washing. Turn off vacuum and unplug it from electrical outlet. 2. Remove dirt cup by pulling the dirt cup release handle then lift dirt cup out. 3. Grasp the lower tank located at the bottom of the dirt cup and twist to unlock and remove. 4. Grasp the circular filters and twist to unlock. Pull straight up to remove. 5. Separate the outer foam and the inner pleated circular filters. Wash them by hand in warm water. Mild detergent may be used if desired. Rinse well, then air dry thoroughly before putting back together and replacing in lower tank. 6. Reassemble the lower tank with the dirt cup by twisting them together until the arrow is aligned with the lock symbol. 2. 3. 4. 6 Tip: Vacuuming new carpet or Inner & Outer Circular Filters Lock Position vacuuming fine powders such as drywall dust may clog the filters, so check them it more frequently. It is the small, round filter located underneath the dirt cup, right above the motor. 1. Unplug the cleaner from the electrical outlet. 2. Remove dirt cup by pulling the dirt cup release handle then lift dirt cup out. 3. Remove the small round pre-motor filter located on the base of the vacuum. 4. Remove any dust or debris from the filter. Rinse well under warm water, then air dry thoroughly before replacing. *Note: Always make sure all filters are in place and thoroughly dry before using this vacuum. 5. Replace dirt cup and push in dirt cup release handle to lock into place. Cleaning the upper tank 1. Turn off vacuum and unplug it from electrical outlet. 2. Remove dirt cup by pulling the dirt cup release handle then lift dirt cup out. 3. Pull down and twist the primary separator 3. to unlock it. Brush off any dirt and rinse off screen with warm water. Air dry completely before replacing. 4. Check hose inlet for any clogging. 5. Reassemble the primary separator by centering the front symbol and twisting toward lock position, as shown. 6. Turn off vacuum cleaner and unplug power cord. 2. Loop power cord around cord wraps on back of cleaner, making certain Quick Release cord wrap is pointed up towards handle. 3. Clip molded plug to power cord to secure. Clean and replace rotating floor brush You should check your cleaner's rotating floor brush and drive belt regularly for wear or damage. You should also clean the brush and brush ends by removing string, hair and carpet fibers. These can wrap around the brush and hamper its ability to effectively clean your carpet. Also, remove any debris that has accumulated under the brush cover. 1. Turn off vacuum and unplug from electrical outlet. 2. Place vacuum upside down with brush roll facing upwards. 3a. Remove five screws as shown with a small Phillips screwdriver. 3b. Lift off brush cover. 4. Grasp floor brush at both ends and lift out. 5. Clean strings, hair and other debris from floor brush, motor shaft, and drive belt. 6. Check floor brush for worn areas and replace if needed. 7. Check air passageway for obstructions. Remove debris from this area. 8. When finished cleaning, reposition floor brush and drive belt. Then replace the brush cover and five screws. Follow steps 1-4 of previous section, "Clean and replace rotating floor brush". 2. Check drive belt carefully for wear, cuts and stressed areas. If the drive belt appears worn, you will need to replace it. 3. Grasp old drive belt and remove from motor shaft. Discard old drive belt. 4. Loop new drive belt over motor shaft and stretch other end over floor brush in the space provided between the bristles. 5. Place ends of floor brush down into slots on sides as shown. 6. Turn floor brush by hand several times in the direction of the motor shaft. If properly installed, drive belt will align itself on floor brush. 7. Reposition brush cover and screws. Cleaning foot hose 1. Turn off and unplug the vacuum from the electrical outlet. 2. Place vacuum in the upright position. 3. Locate the snap where the hose connects to the back of the vacuum. Push in the snap and pull out the hose from the holder. 4. Look to see if there is any debris in the hose. 5. Use a long narrow object, such as a broom stick to clean the hose. Remove any clogs or debris. 6. Replace by snapping hose back into the holder. *Note: If the debris cannot be reached through the hose, then follow the instructions for cleaning the air passageway in the "Clean and replace rotating floor brush" section. Attach upright handle to canister vacuum Gently slide handle over square end of canister vacuum, pushing until buttons on canister snap into place in opening on handle. The handle is designed to attach and disassemble easily as you switch from upright to canister style cleaning. 2. Attach floor nozzle with PowerBrush to canister vacuum Grasp floor nozzle with one hand, while holding canister vacuum firmly with the other. With firm, even pressure, press floor nozzle into round opening at end of canister vacuum. Continue pressing gently but firmly until floor nozzle can go no further. As with the upright handle, the floor nozzle is designed to attach and disassemble easily as you switch from level floor to tool style cleaning. 3. Attach PowerBrush cord to canister Plug cord attached to floor nozzle into back of canister. 4. Attach crevice tool to tool clip Slide narrow end of crevice tool over angled post on the side of the canister, then press round end of tool into semi-circular grip located just below the quick release cord wrap. Detach the upright handle by pressing your thumb and forefinger on the lock buttons on canister (using a "pinching" motion) while gently pulling handle off square end of canister. 2. For above floor surfaces or stairs, use the floor nozzle following the directions for the power switch settings. 3. For edge or small area cleaning, remove the floor nozzle and unplug from the canister. You can then use the canister directly or place the crevice tool in the round opening for added versatility. 4. To resume upright cleaning, reattach the floor nozzle and plug into the back of the canister. Detach the hose from the hose port at the bottom/back of the canister. Press the lock button and pull the hose from the port. Insert the crevice tool into the end of the hose. 2. To resume canister or upright cleaning, remove crevice tool and store in crevice tool clip. Reconnect hose to the hose port, making sure it is locked fully in place. Emptying the dirt cup Your Easy Vac features a translucent plastic dirt cup, so you can easily see when it needs to be emptied. For best performance, empty when debris reaches halfway up the cup. 1. Press the lock button down and forward (away from the canister handle) while lifting the upper portion of the dirt cup away from the canister. 2. Grasp the filter frame and pull it straight up from the dirt cup. Empty the dirt cup and check for cleanliness and damage. You may wash the cup with warm (not hot) water and mild liquid dish soap. Rinse and dry thoroughly before reattaching it. 3. If the surface of the filter looks dirty or discolored, clean or replace it. To clean the filter, remove any debris still clinging to it. You may also wash the filter (#32047 Polyester Fiber only) by gently rinsing under warm running water. Be sure the filter is completely dry before replacing it in your Easy Vac. Turn the Easy Vac off by moving switch to "Off" position. 2. Unplug power cord by grasping the polarized plug (NOT the cord) and disconnect from outlet. 3. Loop power cord around cord wraps on side of cleaner, making certain quick release cord wrap is pointed up towards handle. 4. Clip molded plug to power cord to secure. Check rotating powerbrush and replace drive belt You should check your cleaner's rotating PowerBrush and drive belt regularly for wear or damage. You should also clean the brush and brush ends of string, hair and carpet fibers. These can wrap around the brush and hamper its ability to effectively clean your carpet. Also, remove any debris that has accumulated under the brush cover. 1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet. 2. Place unit upside down with brush roll facing upwards. 3. Remove the four screws as shown with a small Phillips head screwdriver. 4. Push clearview window outwards from underneath. Turn unit right side up to remove window. 5. Grasp rotating PowerBrush and lift out. Note the white end caps are removable and may come apart from the brush roll. 6. Clean strings, hair and other debris from rotating PowerBrush and motor pulley area. 7. Remove old drive belt and discard. Loop new drive belt over motor pulley and rotating PowerBrush. Slide the white end caps on the sides of the PowerBrush into the slots on the sides as shown. Check brush to make sure it turns freely. 8. Reposition the clearview window. Turn the unit over and gently push window at the two points shown to snap into place. 9. Replace the four screws and tighten. Never carry or pull by the cord, use cord as a handle, close door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Keep cord away from heated surfaces. Do not use with damaged cord or plug. ■ Do not use an extension cord. DC adapter should plug directly into electrical outlet. ■ Do not store or carry battery pack so that metal objects can touch the battery contacts. ■ Never attempt to open the battery pack for any reason. If the housing of the battery pack breaks or cracks, immediately dis continue use and do not recharge. ■ Do not charge the battery pack if it is wet or shows any evidence of corrosion. ■ For best results, do not charge a battery when it or air temperature is BELOW 40° F (5° C) or above 105° F (40° C). Enclosed you'll find assembly instructions, tips for all cleaning tasks, safety precautions, plus maintenance and troubleshooting instructions. Please read this Guide thoroughly before using your CatchAll Bare Floor Cleaner. Pay particular attention to the parts diagram, assembly instructions and part names. Following the Guide will greatly enhance your ability to get the most performance from your CatchAll for many years. How To Put It Together The CatchAll requires very little assembly. Remove it from the box and check against the illustration to familiarize yourself with the parts. This illustration with part names will also be helpful if you should need to order a part at a later time. WARNING: Electric/electronic appliances should not be subjected to extreme temperatures or high humidity. Do not store the CatchAll in bathing areas or close to stoves, furnaces or radiators. Tip: Fully charge battery Assemble the Handle by screwing together the 4 metal 1. sections, placing the Handle Grip at the top. Screw the Handle Assembly into the Swivel Handle at 2. the top of the cleaner. Charging The Battery The Battery Pack is not fully charged when packed in 1. the carton. It should be charged at least 8 hours before using it for the first time. Thereafter, a 6-8 hour charge will renew the Battery Pack. To charge the unit, remove the Battery Pack by gripping 2. it firmly on both sides and lifting up and out. Place the Battery Pack in the Charging Base aligning the metal contacts on the bottom. Plug the DC Adapter of the Charging Base into a standard electrical outlet (120V 60hz). The Indicator Light will glow red, showing the battery is charging. When completely charged, the CatchAll provides over 3. 15 minutes of full cleaning power. An additional Battery Pack may be purchased to extend run time. 5 before using. 4. Charging The Battery Continued Decreased operating time may indicate the battery has built up a charging resistance. To recharge, first com pletely exhaust the battery, recharge it, then exhaust it again before recharging a second time. This procedure may be required more than once. How To Use The BISSELL CatchAll Attaching the Cloth Note: All popular brands of DRY disposable electrostatic cloths will fit in your CatchAll including Swiffer® and Pledge Grab-it®. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Unfold the cloth. Open the Cloth Holder by pushing down on the outside tabs. Place one edge of the cloth into the Grippers on the bottom of the Cloth Holder. Close the Cloth Holder and press firmly to latch into place. Fold the cloth up over the cleaner and push the other edge of the cloth into the Grippers on the top of the cleaner. 6 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Cleaning Your Bare Floors If the Battery Pack is not already in your CatchAll, remove it from the Charging Base and press firmly into place aligning the metal contacts on the bottom. Tip the Handle back into typical use position. Turn the cleaner on by pressing the On/Off Button on the top of the vacuum. Clean large areas by pushing forward with the Rotating Brush in front. This will allow the vacuum to get the dirt and debris while the cloth dusts your floor. To clean in corners and low-clearance areas, turn the cleaner in the opposite direction to lead with the electrostatic cloth. Any loose dirt or debris can be pushed out and then vacuumed up. Note: You may also use your CatchAll without the cloth for quick vacuuming pickups. Or you can use the cloth without the vacuum turned on to quickly dust your floors. When you're done, turn the cleaner off by pressing the On/Off button again. The Battery Pack may be left in the cleaner or returned to the Charging Base for recharging. WARNING: Use only DRY electrostatic cloths with your BISSELL CatchAll. Use of wet or pre-moistened cloths may damage your cleaner and void the warranty. 7 Maintenance The key to maximum performance is emptying the Dirt Cup frequently and cleaning the Filter. Emptying the Dirt Cup after each use, and cleaning the Filter periodically, will help your CatchAll operate at peak efficiency. Emptying The Dirt Cup & Cleaning The Filter Use only BISSELL Replacement Filters (203-2518) in your BISSELL CatchAll. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. With the Rotating Brush facing away from you, push forward on the Dirt Cup Release. Then grasp the Dirt Cup and pull toward you and out. Remove the Filter from the Dirt Cup and empty debris into a garbage container. Shake the Filter to remove any debris. Replace the Filter in the Dirt Cup and place the Dirt Cup back in position in the cleaner. Lock the Dirt Cup into place by pulling the Dirt Cup Release toward the Dirt Cup. After heavy usage, you may clean the Filter by washing it gently by hand in warm water and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and make certain it is completely dry before replacing it. If Filter is torn, replace it with a new Filter. WARNING: Never operate the CatchAll without the filter in place. Doing so may damage the motor and void the warranty. 8 Checking the Rotating Brush & Changing the Belt Use BISSELL Replacement Belts (203-2519) in your BISSELL CatchAll. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Remove the Battery Pack from the cleaner. Turn the cleaner over and remove the two screws as shown with a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove both the Brush Covers by pulling up on the end where the screw was and lift out. Remove the Rotating Brush by grasping the Brush or the Blade and pulling up on each end. Note the white End Caps are removable and may come apart from the brush. Clean strings, hair and other debris from the Rotating Brush. If the Belt is broken or worn, remove it and discard. Loop new Belt over the Motor Pulley and notched area of the Rotating Brush. Replace the End Caps and push the Rotating Brush into the slots on the sides as shown. Make sure the Rotating Brush is pushed all the way down and turns freely. Replace the Brush Covers by inserting the notched end under the tab and pushing into place. If you have any difficulty getting the Brush Covers into place, check again to make sure the Rotating Brush is pushed all the way down into the slots. You may need to rotate the End Caps slightly to push into place. Replace the two screws and tighten. 9 See the following instructions to dispose of the batteries after they have exceeded the battery life. WARNING: This product contains a nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) rechargeable battery pack. According to Federal and State regulations, removal and proper disposal of Ni-Cd batteries is required.
